Periodontal disease (or commonly known as gum disease) is an inflammatory disease of the support structures of teeth (the Periodontium). It usually starts with a non-painful condition of bleeding/inflamed gums (gingivitis), and can progress to a destructive disease where the periodontium is damaged or destroyed. The common symptoms include red and bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth and moving teeth (shifting position). Advanced Periodontal Disease can often lead to tooth loss. Successful treatment is dependent on early detection and intervention and a commitment to self- and professional-oral hygiene care. Contact us if you would like to make an appointment.
